Chosen by the Toy Industry Association as one of it’s “Toys of the Century.”  Stick horses have been amongst our most popular toys since Mary Meyer introduced them in 1963.  Now a classic, the real wood stick (natural finish or white) is super sturdy.

Squeeze his ear to hear galloping and neighing. This is a fun and active black stick horse. Chosen by the Toy Industry Association as one of its “Toys of the Century”. Surface wash.

*The sound chip inside the horse’s head does have a limited life expectancy, and unfortunately, there is no way to replace it or the battery.

*Stick Horses are not eligible for gift boxing

*Please note: Orders containing Baby Mats or Stick Horses are excluded from free shipping. A $10 shipping fee will be applied at checkout.

This horse is awesome. My nephew, though only 8 months old, loveds the noise it makes when you press the ear.

Unfortunately it’s a great toy for a kid but a waste of money since you can’t change the battery. My son loves it. He wants it to make noise again but I won’t waste my money on another. Bad battery design.

My kids are so attached to these horses…and now they’re heartbroken because it’s impossible to put in a new battery. WHY????

I just took the ear apart where the button is located and the wires are broken from the solder joints. Take the ear stitches where the ear hole would be, which should allow easy disguised cosmetic surgery. I found two blue wires, one was not connected to the switch. I don’t see a battery and I’m not going to dig any deeper to find it. Hope this helps.

My daughter loves this but it literally still has tags on it and the battery is already dead. We purchased this at a store while on a road trip 3 months ago, is there any way to replace the batteries? I no longer have the receipt of course I thought this would be a better longer lasting thing given the quality of the rest of your products

My daughter loves this horse but the battery or ear mechanism died in less than a day. Very disappointing for a Christmas gift that seemed so nice.

My son loves this toy but the sounds have stopped working—presumably because the battery is dead. I would not have purchased if I realized there was no way to change the battery.

  12. Nicholas Riddle

I bought this at a local toy store for my niece for Christmas and the battery is already dead before I have given it to her. There is apparently no way to replace the battery and reviews from years ago acknowledge the company is aware of this annoying issue and has done nothing to remedy it. The noises were the selling point on me getting the toy in the first place and now I’m going to have to locate the receipt or dispute this with my bank. Would not recommend if you plan on using this for the sounds.

  • Allow it to air dry, then brush or fluff the fabric.

These are just some of the reasons a Mary Meyer toy is safe, no matter which toy you choose.

Our 5-Step Approach to Safety

1. Design

  • Exceeding ASTM standards is the guiding principle of our experienced designers.
  • Safety begins at the drawing board.
  • From the way items are sewn to the fabrics and components selected, our designers make thoughtful decisions to help keep our toys among the safest in the industry.

2. Testing

  • All Mary Meyer toys are fully tested for fabric performance and construction quality.
  • Our toys are tested to meet, and often exceed, U.S. safety standards.
  • If a toy does not pass testing, it is either removed before production or redesigned until it meets all safety requirements.

3. Production

  • Built-in production processes are designed to maximize safety.
  • All toys pass through metal detectors to ensure no metal fragments are inside.
  • All plastic eyes are sonic-welded in place to help ensure they remain firmly attached to the surrounding fabric.
  • All beans are sewn into inner bean bags so that if a seam breaks during the life of the toy, the beans remain safely contained.

4. Inspection

  • Ongoing inspections during and after production are an essential part of our safety program.
  • Toys are reviewed not only for safety, but also for quality control, design consistency, correct labeling, and package integrity.

5. Compliance Certification

  • Mary Meyer provides PDFs of each toy’s CPSC Compliance Certificate to the public, as required by law.
  • Mary Meyer does not use paint on any of its products.
  • Our testing includes flammability, small parts, choking hazards, torque, tension, and more.
  • Our toys comply with the elimination of six phthalates in children’s products, effective February 10, 2009.
  • Mary Meyer certifies that the products sold are in compliance with all current standards.

Our Commitment to Safety

  • We are committed to meeting or exceeding all government requirements because safety has been a top priority for over 80 years.
  • As a third-generation family business, our toys must be as safe for our children and grandchildren as they are for yours.
  • If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Safety for Infants

  • Mary Meyer requires that all products be completely safety tested by independent testing facilities.
  • Our products meet or exceed all applicable safety standards established by regulatory bodies in the United States.
  • This includes physical and mechanical standards, as well as legislation regarding chemicals such as BPA, lead, and phthalates.
  • All parties involved in the manufacture of Mary Meyer Corporation products are required to follow these guidelines.
  • All testing is conducted by registered independent testing facilities.
